Black History Month

Black History displays
Visit our Black History displays in the AHS Media Center! Artwork by Decatur artist, Mrs. Pamela Farmer, has been loaned to the school and celebrates black Americans who have contributed to society in all walks of life. Her work is displayed in universities and museums. We are grateful that Mrs. Farmer has allowed us to use her work. Books are also displayed for students to check out and enjoy on a wide range of subjects from the Tuskegee Airmen to the Civil Rights Movement.

Scholarships and Financial Aid

The daily announcements are filled with scholarship and financial aid information and other opportunities for our AHS Black Bears.

Developmental Students Open Business

The AHS developmental students have started their very own coffee cart business. They can only sell to teachers and staff during 1st block on Fridays. They will sell regular coffee, flavored coffee, hot chocolate, muffins and doughnuts. Kerri Beck, Developmental teacher, said that the students are very excited and will gain experience in serving the public and in counting money. Please continue for photo.

AP CSP- Black and White Image Encryptions

AHS AP CSP students explored methods for encoding digital images in binary which requires representing metadata such as width and height as well as pixel data. Students used the Pixelation widget on Code.org to encode black and white raster images. Please click to view student work.

AP CSP Students Create Color Images

AHS AP CSP students learned about the RGB color encoding scheme and used an updated version of the pixelation widget on Code.org to encode color images. Students had the option of working with binary or hexadecimal notation to facilitate the representation of larger groupings of binary digits.
